Volunteers are needed to help clean up the woodworking shop at Jackson Park Ministries. Jim Emery and Jackson Park Ministries have graciously extended their hospitality and freely opened the woodworking shop to the Charlotte Woodturners for the past couple of years for our monthly meetings and other events. This is a small way that to say thanks for their generosity and support.

On Thursday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m., Sam McDowell will demonstrate “Turning Green, Using Cherry Burls.” If you have a burl and need advice on how to turn it, bring it in for Sam’s opinion.
Enter the raffle and have a chance to win a turning by Anatoly Tsiris, our “Member of the Month” turner for August! If you have an item (wood, tool, glue, etc.) to bring for the raffle table please do so. We are always looking for items and it helps in raising funds for our demonstrators for the future.
Bring one or more of your recent turnings for the show ‘n tell portion of the program. For each item (up to three) you bring for the show ‘n tell or the raffle, you’ll earn an opportunity to win the year-end raffle prize given away in December.

On Thursday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m., Jim Duxbury will demonstrate the construction of his Traditional model wooden kaleidoscope. This kaleidoscope is a typical example of a traditional 3 mirror scope with an oil-filled object box and prismed exterior lens contained in a rotatable end cylinder.
He will show the fabrication of his unique cone jig for turning the kaleidoscope barrel and end cylinder. This technique can also be used to turn numerous other centerless objects. Additionally, he will make all the pieces for the object box, cut glass for the eye piece, and also cut the first surface mirror using his mirror cutting jig.
This kaleidoscope is Not a Kit – everything is fabricated and assembled. You won’t want to miss this demo.
Enter the raffle and have a chance to win a turning by Bruce Lacy, our “Member of the Month” turner for June! If you have an item (wood, tool, glue, etc.) to bring for the raffle table please do so. We are always looking for items and it helps in raising funds for our demonstrators for the future.
